It is the quintessential horror slab. Brazil’s Shock has seen quite the active time over the past few months. And you have to ask yourself; at what point do those hard-charging heroes just say, ‘nah, it’s not for me.’
Take this latest, brutalist example. If big wave aficionado Chumbo cops a flogging like no other, then what the heck are the rest of us going to do? Easy; stay at home.
“It’s not simple to surf this wave,” said filmer Matheus Couto. “It has lots of water moving and it’s really unpredictable, when you go on the wave you don’t know if it’s gonna be the barrel of your life or the wipeout of your life [laughs].
“There are some shallow parts, and some surfers have already been hit by the rocks after they had huge wipeouts. The end of the barrel is difficult as well, because as the water is moving, it makes the end of the wave messy and lots of surfers fall there. These people who surf here are real warriors. They do it because they love it.”
Hit play above for a minute of carnage. Big oofts.
