The Joe Way Appeal has been supported for the third year by the UK leg of the European longboard tour.

Some of Europe’s top longboard surfers competed at the Asahi European Tour of Longboard (ETL) Watergate Bay presented by O’Neill Wetsuits.

Event organizer and reigning champion Ben Skinner won in the head to head heat against Frenchman Eduardo Delpero, he then went on to win in Morocco which means a win in Portugal will enable him to achieve his goal of winning a tenth European title.

£1370.00 was raised with a raffle, auction and a donation from Asahi beer sales. There where some great lots including an O’neill Fat Boy bean bag bought for £250, Lush skateboard £200 and a Skindog custom flowboard which sold for £200.

Ben “Skindog” Skinner who has just returned from competing in the world longboard tour in China and the supporters of the Newquay toddlers appeal have now passed the £111,000.00 mark over the four years since Joe aged 4 passed away, £70,000.00 has gone towards building Cornwall’s first children’s hospice which is now up and running.

Matt Way, Joe’s dad, said; “We would like to thank Skindog, the Retallack team, Steve Skinner, Dean Woods and the sponsors for their continued support. Ben, his family, friends and supporters have been with us at the start of our Journey after Joe died, they have been a great support and have raised thousands of pounds in Joe’s memory which has helped the who whole family get through the daily struggle of not having our little boy with us”.

The Joe Way Appeal split the funds between Newquay surf life saving club and Surfers against sewage, attendees signed the Protect Our Waves petition which aims to generate over 100,000 signatures to highlight the value of surfing waves and beaches. SAS will deliver the petition to 10 Downing Street in summer 2013.

Other sponsors of the fundraising event included Newquay Surfing School, Rocky Point, Relentless Energy Drinks, Perranporth Signs & Graphics and The Retallack Resort and Spa.
